Built in the 13th century, the church has seen much of historical and social significance. It also has the privilege of having had the longest-serving priest in the country the Reverend Falconer. Currently it is one of the six churches in the Bacton benifice.

As with all churches, renovations and repairs are constantly being carried out, and much of this is only possible through the money raised by the Friends of St Mary’s. They hold wonderful themed supper evenings during the year, serve excellent lunches every month and organise various activities as occasions arise.

The choir is a vital part of the life of the church. Robed and “surpliced”, it leads the singing at the morning service every week, often embellishing this with a four-part anthem. It also gives an annual concert in the summer, as well as a service of Nine Lessons and Carols at Christmas time.

As great a variety of services as possible is held on Sundays. Every fortnight is the early service of communion using the traditional Book of Common Prayer, and in the intervening weeks at 11.00am is Family Communion. Once a month is Community Praise, an informal service followed by refreshments and, on the fourth Sunday Matins, again using the BCP.

There is also a lively team of bell-ringers who summon us on Sundays and whose practice evenings can be enjoyed by a wide audience.
